Google Search Engine Ranking Tips

The Google Search Engine is currently the most important and popular search engine so it is well worth spending some time and effort to improve your site's placement on the Google engine. Here are a few Google search engine ranking tips that will help you get some quality targeted traffic to your web site.

Keyword-Focused Content

Do some keyword research and come up with a list of as many keywords, related to your product or service, as you can. Don't pick the most popular keywords and phrases because they are too competitive but focus on the "lesser" keywords (key phrases) i.e., the ones with fewer searches. As a rule of thumb, ignore keywords/phrases with less than at least 100 searches for the previous month as measured by Overture. The list you compile will become spider food for the Google search engines.

Start by picking some of the better keywords from you list. Select one primary and one or two secondary keywords. Write a brief article (250-500 words) using your primary keyword in your title, page description, and at least twice in the first paragraph. Try to use it again one or twice throughout the article and again in the last paragraph. Sprinkle your secondary keywords through the article wherever you can do so and still maintain the flow of the articles.

Repeat this process with all of your keywords. Keywords that were primary on one page will become secondary on another page and visa versa. Start with a goal of 20-50 keyword-focused pages. You can continue to add to your content over time. Remember, in addition to creating spider food, you must provide content that is valuable to your visitors. Keep this in mind as you build your content.

Start a Strategic Linking Program.

One of the factors that Google uses in ranking your site is link popularity. This related to the number of sites linking to yours or inbound link. It is not just the number of sites but also the quality of the sites that link to you. Quality is measured by how well the inbound link matches your site's theme. Getting quality sites to link to yours will greatly improve your ranking and, as an added bonus, will dramatically increase your targeted traffic.

Use Keyword Text Links

Increase relevancy of your pages by using keywords in text links. For example, instead of "Click Here" or "Products" use keywords in the link that are relevant to the product or service. Take a look at some of the links on this site and you will quickly get the idea. When requesting a link exchange, you should also try to get your link partner to provide a keyword relevant link back to your site. You should, of course reciprocate.

Use ALT Tags To Your Advantage

If you have images on your site, (not too many I hope) use suitable keywords in the ALT tags. The Google engine will apparently index these ALT tags so you may as well use them.
